wonder what Proust would make of this

painting found in French apartment untouched for 70 years

The apartment was a time capsule from 1900.
The late owner of the apartment was the granddaughter of the subject of the painting, Marthe de Florian, a demimondaine of the 1890's.  They also found love letters sent to her by George Clemenceau and the painter, Giovanni Boldini, among others.  It's like stepping into a lost world.  And why did the granddaughter leave and never come back?
The artist, Giovanni Boldini, was known for his portraits - some of which were of people in Proust's world, such as Robert de Montesquiou (a model for the Baron de Charlus).

Incidentally, I'm thinking of making another attempt at this blog - only to write it in my beginner's-level Spanish.
